My Volunteer Review of Uganda
EXPERIENCING THE DELIGHTS OF VOLUNTEERING IN UGANDA
When I finally arrived in Uganda, I almost fell over backwards! My thoughts were quickly distracted as the villagers waited for the next “stranger.” They gave me such a beautiful greeting. I was blown away by their kindness!
As soon as I woke up, little children would gather around to stare at me and giggle.
Situated in the hills the scenery around where I lived was stunning, all lush and green.
Everyday there was an adventure and I started to feel at home as I thoroughly enjoyed myself. No two days were the same. My best experience was seeing the gorillas. We trekked to go and see them. It took us an hour walking up the steep hill just to get to the edge of the forest. The hills were a patchwork quilt of different crops. We got a call to say the gorillas were an hour away, so we set off. After we had been walking awhile the guide with us got a call to say the gorilla’s were on the move and were coming in our direction. The guide said that they were coming to greet us. They were so human-like with their movement and gestures.
I enjoyed the country and the people and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t miss them.
