STUDENT WHO ENJOYED VOLUNTEERING IN GHANA SETS UP CHARITY TO EDUCATE THE CHILDREN OF AFRICA

A young student from Brighton enjoyed her time volunteering in Ghana so much that she has decided to set up a charity to educate the children of Africa.

Stacey Green volunteered with Original Volunteers in Ghana at the beginning of 2010.

She described her experiences as ‘ Great, the best experience ever’.

As a result of her volunteering experiences she made many new friends, and together with three other volunteers she is in the process of setting up the charity. She hopes to operate initially in Ghana and also set up  volunteer work in Kenya.

Stacey said that the aim is to empower local people to set up projects in local schools to teach children about health, and sex education issues.

She is currently in the process of registering the Charity.

Stacey added that the ideas came to her during her time volunteering in Ghana. She felt that her organizational skills came to the fore during her time volunteering.

She said that she sees the charity as a long term project that she hopes along with her friends they will pursue for the rest of their lives.

Stacey was full of praise for the work of Original volunteers. She said that so many volunteer companies ‘Rip you off’ charging thousands of pounds, but was amazed at how reasonably priced Original volunteers were. She said that she thought at first that there must be a catch, but soon realized that there wasn’t, and described Original Volunteers as a ‘Genuine, safe, and established company’.

She said that she was impressed by the way the company had arranged everything for her, and the fact that we were able to put her in touch with local projects.

Volunteering has obviously been a life changing experience for Stacey, and we wish her well, and will be keen to follow the progress of her charity project.
