Michael Cafferky Morocco

Names of staff involved in your programme:

What members of staff do you remember the most and why? Amena (I think that’s how you spell it) the cleaner, she was very charming and pleasant she was great to have a laugh with. I also remember Fatima as she was also pleasant and a real role model as all the children think so much of her and you want to try and replicate that.

What were your impressions of the accommodation?
I think that it was a very well kept house and extremely clean.

Why did you want to volunteer?
I thought I was going to be an amazing experience, one that I would look back on and cherish (I was right). I also want to travel the world and get experience and I feel I have gained a wonderful experience from this.

Do you feel you made a difference, how?
I feel like I have made a difference with at least a couple of children as I had a really good connection with them. We also went out on the streets to the hungry and homeless and gave them our left over food like sandwiches fruit and so on.

What did you do for fun?
Play with the football and also draw, it is extremely fun when you play drawing games.

When was your most enjoyable experience, do you have an interesting story?
Going to watch the show that the kids put on in the theatre, enjoyable.

Who did you make friends with and for what reasons?
I made friends with a kid called Mohammed, a lot of them are called Mohammed but that’s the most specific I can get. We played football and basketball together.

What were the names of the best places to hang out and socialise, why was this?
On the roof because it’s just the quietest place and small so people talk to each other, also the sofa on the second floor.

Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers? Please explain why.
Not in Morocco because I have already been maybe in south America if I do go with you again. What would you say/recommend to a friend who was interested in volunteering? Bring rehydration packets and bring money for food and water… especially water. Also be prepared with dealing with different age groups.

What items would you suggest future volunteers pack?
Rehydration packets and things for every age group to play with below 13

Could you offer any tips to future volunteers?
Go when it isn’t particularly summer yet, a month like may where it is hot and also cool. BE PREPARED.
