Day centre for disabled and special needs children

Volunteers help with bathing, dressing, providing one to one attention and stimulation (bring basic interactive, stimulating toys for young children/special needs children from home).

Although most volunteers concentrate all their efforts at the orphanage, some volunteers may like to combine the two placements, helping at the day centre a couple of times a week during their free time-this can be arranged after arrival. For volunteers with a special interest in special needs, or perhaps physiotherapy/OT students they are welcome to concentrate all their time at the day centre.

MEXICO AT A GLANCE

Mexico is a land of contrasts, a developing country yet one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Attractions include ancient Aztec and Mayan cities, Spanish colonial architecture, the Copper Canyon railway, fabulous beaches, cheap tequila and bustling markets selling local handicrafts.

Climate: rainy season May to October with high humidity between June and September. Temperature can reach 40! Leave synthetic fabrics at home during this time! The coolest months are between December and February although the temperature can still average 25 degrees Celsius.

Affordably priced activities in the immediate area include guided hikes, horse riding, scuba diving, kayaking snorkelling, whale watching and swimming with dolphins.

“Hi,
Hope you got my mum's email the other day, sorry its taken me so long to get round to sending you one! here is some feedback that you can put in the
newsletter if you like.
My time in Mexico with Original Volunteers was over too quickly and I would love to have the opportunity to take part in another volunteer project in the future. I've fallen in love with the culture and way of life in Mexico and would love to go back there one day!”
