THAILAND - PLACEMENT OVERVIEW

Come to this world-famously friendly country and live and work alongside local people off the beaten tourist trail. After volunteering experience the hospitality and magical tropical beauty  from the floating markets of Bangkok, the temples and grottoes to the idyllic islands of the south.

THAILAND

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Volunteers are needed to teach in schools throughout Thailand. No experience is needed just the enthusiasm to have a go.

Current locations include schools in the following provinces: Sakon Nakorn, Kanchanaburi, Ang Thong and Chumporn. Volunteers usually get a couple of options on arrival to choose from and friends / couples are placed in the same school.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

The students range in ages and volunteers typically teach either teach young students between the ages of 8 and 16 or teens to young adults.

Teaching young children involves lots of energy from play work which involves English, singing simple nursery rhymes and days of the week/months of the year and basic expressions such as hello, what is your name etc. Teaching older students offers the volunteer more of a ‘guiding’ r ole; asking students to talk about  things in their life such as hobbies or their family, singing international pop songs and marking the work on paper they have been set.

Want to try out teaching English or gain valuable classroom experience

Want to learn about Thai culture and customs as an insider-not as a tourist

Want to use your volunteering as preparation for  travel around the region

Have been to Thailand before as a tourist but would like to have a go at volunteering this time.

THAILAND THINGS TO SEE AND DO...

Take a boat trip through Bangkok's Floating Market, or along the klongs, a network of canals leading off the river, and lined with dwellings opening directly on to the water. Life has changed little for those living along the klongs.

Take in a muay thai (Thai kick-boxing) match; this traditional sport can be seen every day of the year at the major stadiums in both Bangkok and the provinces. Thai boxing matches are preceded by elaborate ceremonies and accompanied by lively music.

Head off after your volunteering to enjoy Thailand's thousands of kilometres of coastline. Have a go at sea canoeing and kayaking through the spectacular limestone islands in Phang Nga Bay and explore the half-submerged caves and grottoes.

Language:

English is widely understood, particularly in Bangkok where it is almost the major commercial language.

Climate: Hottest month/July

Time difference from UK: GMT +7 hrs
