Tibetan Community at a glance

Over 130,000 Tibetans live in exile in India, Nepal, Bhutan and other countries around the world. Led by H.H. Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Government in Exile aims to raise awareness of their situation, exert diplomatic pressure on improving the lives of Tibetans still living in Tibet whilst also creating programs to  sustain and develop Tibetan settlements.

The mass exile of the Tibetan people has resulted in the construction of many new monasteries to preserve the monastic tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. These institutions not only teach Buddhist philosophy but a variety of subjects from English to computer studies.

Most Tibetans are deeply religious and Buddhism is a strong part of their culture. It is not uncommon to see ordinary Tibetans chanting their way round temples, swinging hand help prayer wheels or revering representations of the Buddha.
