A Parliamentary Aide who is spending 8 weeks volunteering in Ghana hopes that MP’S will listen to his experiences upon his return to the U.K.
Sam Littlejohns, 18, is a Gap year student who is spending part of the year working in the House Of Commons as a Parliamentary Aide, and part of the yearVolunteering before going to University to study Law.
He found out about Original Volunteers through a friend who went to volunteer in Peru, and told him how well organised the company was.
Sam, who is travelling with Anna Sheinman, said that he has heard that Ghana is an ‘exciting and vibrant place’, and that he is really looking forward to going there.
He feels that his communication, and people skills will come in useful when teaching the children, and in return hopes to discover, and understand more about the people of Ghana, and what they need.
He added that he hopes to gain a greater understanding of the Country, and its culture.
When asked if he felt that the knowledge he acquires could help MP’S to have a better understanding of the Country upon his return he replied ‘ that would be fantastic if it happens’.
We wish Sam well, and hope that both he, and the children of Ghana benefit from his time spent in the Country. Who knows, maybe the knowledge that he acquires will one day be listened to, and acted upon by an M.P in the U.K upon his return.

Positive comments from a friends uncle about Original Volunteers led a Surrey man to volunteer in Argentina and Peru.
Thomas Deighton was told by a friend that his Uncle, who works in a Monkey sanctuary in Peru, had told him how volunteers there were full of praise for the company, and had experienced ‘no problems’ with them.
He then searched the Internet, found the company, and decided to spend two weeks volunteering in each Country.
Thomas, who speaks Spanish to A level standard, hopes to be able to converse with people in Spanish, and to teach English to children during his stay.
He adds however that he is happy to hep out with anything during his time in Argentina and Peru.
He hopes that this experience will lead in later life to him wanting to teach English abroad, and that it will help to improve his Spanish. He also feels that it will be good for him to ‘see other countries’ and to ‘broaden my horizons’.
Thomas’s friend Jake Batty will also be volunteering with him, and they are spending a total of two and a half months travelling in South America.
Original Volunteers are pleased that both Thomas, and Jake decided to volunteer with us, hope that they enjoy the experience, and wish them ‘Buena Suerte’ on their travels.

A Sales Manager from Birmingham, who spends much of her time in a Corporate environment feels that her forthcoming volunteering in a Mexican Orphanage will be a ‘life changing experience’.
Vicki Field, who works for a Pet insurance company, said that ‘people are very wrapped up in what is going on here’, referring to the credit crunch, and hopes that her time spent in Mexico will ‘bring some perspective’.
She said that she had worked in her current role for 10 years, and accepts that by doing this she will be ‘out of my comfort zone’.
She added that she rarely gets the opportunity to take part in anything like this.
Vicki is learning Spanish, and hopes to be able to put this into practice during her time in Mexico. She feels that she is a people person, and having coached, and taught people in her working environment hopes that she can transfer these skills into volunteering.
She trained as a Veterinary nurse, is not sure if this will prove to be useful in Mexico, but is hoping to be able to help out with every day tasks.
Talking about her career she says that ‘ In the Corporate environment people are thinking about themselves, but there are bigger issues going on in the world’, adding that she expects this to ‘change my perspective’ on life.
Original volunteers wishes Vicki a very Happy Christmas, and time spent volunteering in Mexico over the Festive season, and look forward to hearing stories of her time spent in the Country upon her return.

CORPORATE SALES MANAGER BELIEVES THAT VOLUNTEERING IN MEXICO WILL BE A
‘LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE’
A Hairdresser whose work becomes quiet after the Christmas period has decided to spend the time working with children in Peru.
Beverley Wilkins, from Chippenham, found that her working life becomes quieter after Christmas, and so she decided to volunteer abroad.
Having found out about the work of Original volunteers through the Internet she arranged to travel to Peru to work with children in an Orphanage.
She said that she has travelled extensively before, recently visiting Katmandu, and found children in general to be ‘honest and true’.
During her time there she visited a school, took small presents with her, and was delighted that the children performed a dance, blessed her, and gave her flowers.
Beverley, who is travelling with her friend Rose Senior, said that if she can help during her forthcoming volunteer work in any way she will.
She felt that in the U.K many children play on computers for their fun and games, but found that in many other Countries children still play together as a team, and make up games out of nothing.
When asked what she hopes to gain personally from her time in Peru she replied that ‘ If I can achieve anything just by being there that is enough for me’.
We hope that the Beverley, and the children at the Orphanage in Peru have a wonderful time during her stay there, and look forward to hearing her stories upon her return.
If you have a quiet time each year work wise, and feel that you too would like to volunteer why not get in touch with us on
