Conservation Projects Abroad

Conservation volunteer
Volunteering with Original Volunteers gives you the opportunity to work in conservation. From Guatemala to Ecuador to Honduras, you can see beautiful sights along the journey of your conservation volunteering. A nice, relaxing atmosphere is what awaits you when you take part in volunteering in Honduras; whilst there volunteers work at the Iguana
Conservation centre. When helping here, volunteers get the opportunity to take care of the Iguanas, show people around the centre, assist with gardening and take part in general maintenance work. The main role of the volunteer in Honduras is to monitor the habitat of the local Iguana population; when doing this you get the chance to trek through and see the beauty of the jungles and mangroves. Guatemala offers plenty of conservation work, with two different projects on offer. When working at the Coastal Ecology Project, volunteers help with taking care of the sea turtles.
They assist with the collecting of eggs, taking them to the sea turtle hatchery and waiting for them to hatch. Once the hatchlings are ready, volunteers take the sea turtles back to the water, scoping out the environment to make sure they are being returned to a safe area. The second project available in Guatemala is helping at the Animal Shelter. The animal shelter caters for all different types of animals and where possible tries to release them back to the wild.
Volunteers not only help with the general day to day tasks of caring for the animals, they also assist when returning them to the surrounding forests; making sure it is safe, monitoring the animals once they have been released; everything to make sure the animals are safe. Conservation work in Ecuador mainly focuses on tree planting, and jungle work. Volunteers tend to help out in the children's day care centres first, then when they are comfortable and settled they head off to outer parts of the area to the jungles, to help and assist there. You will never be short of beauty in any of these countries, and will always feel relaxed and at home. Helping animals can be a really rewarding experience as you know you are giving back to the environment and wildlife that exists around us.
