Mexico at a glance

Mexico is a land of contrasts, a developing country yet one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Other attractions away from the beach resorts include ancient Aztec and Mayan cities, Spanish colonial architecture, the Copper Canyon railway and bustling markets selling local handicrafts.

Glitzy resorts like Cancun are not far away from this placement along with the ever popular one-horse towns in the interior.

Climate: rainy season May to October with high humidity between June and September. The coolest months are between December and February although the temperature can still average 25 degrees Celsius.

Your experience

At day centres on the Yucatan Peninsular close to Cancun you can make a real difference to children’s quality of life.

Many of these centres receive little government support or funding and rely on material and financial contributions from overseas supporters. Financial support does not stretch to cover wages for extra staff to be able to provide one-to-one attention and this is where your help is crucial.

You do not need experience or Spanish to be a successful volunteer on this programme, just a willingness to offer a few hours of your time to the children.

Placement overview

Love kids? Love beach life? Can you spare a week?

Here on the outstanding Yucatan peninsular  you can make a big difference to some very special children who only want some attention and reassurance that they matter too.

“Everyone is friendly

and accommodating

and the coordinators

are fantastic.  I never

felt any uneasiness

whilst at either of the two orphanages I spent time at or whilst

visiting local attractions. I would definitely

consider returning for

a second visit."
