Lucy Hyde – Peru

What did you do for fun?

The most fun was doing special activities which were a bit out of the ordinary for them like going out for pizza, to the cinema and to the swimming pool. The volunteers who had arrived before me had recently been on a camping trip with them which they had enjoyed so i think that is something not to be missed if you have the opportunity.

When was your most enjoyable experience?

Swimming with the children.

Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers?

Yes I would like to try another project but I am not sure it will be as good as this one as I have so happy memories from the children in Cuzco.

How much money would you suggest you take per week?

£30 should be enough if you walk everywhere, you don’t need a taxi to go to town as it’s only 20 minutes away.

Could you offer any tips to future volunteers?

Do not expect five star accommodation as it’s a children’s home, but it was more comfortable than many other hostels I stayed in Peru after my volunteering. Definitey spend some time in the main square as you’ll see everyone there, it’s a real hang out and meeting place for everyone who goes to Cuzco.
