Islay Leefe Griffiths Cambodia

Why did you want to volunteer?

To experience a foreign culture and country through the eyes of the local people rather than a tourist.

Do you feel you made a difference, how?
To some extent, I wish I had gone for longer.

What did you do for fun?
The other volunteers were fun, as were the kids and the locals. The atmosphere was brilliant.

When was your most enjoyable experience, do you have an interesting story?
The entire experience was unforgettable.

Who did you make friends with and for what reasons?
I made friends with other volunteers because they were friendly and welcoming.

What were the names of the best places to hang out and socialise
11 Happy in Phnom Penh and just at the school, because of the people there.

What were your impressions of the accommodation?
I was happy because it was relatively clean and comfortable, although the shower wasn’t as strong as I would have liked.

Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers?
Absolutely, to get a feel of more diverse countries around the world.

What would you say/recommend to a friend who was interested in volunteering?
I would say have a look on Original volunteer’s website for ideas of where to go.

What items would you suggest future volunteers pack?
The list supplied by Original volunteers is pretty extensive.

How much money would you suggest you take per week?
I was in Cambodia for 3 weeks and I spent around 300 Pounds, but this was with travelling.

Could you offer any tips to future volunteers?
Go for as long as possible!
