Niamh Pryke Morocco
Names of staff involved in your programme:
Abs, Fatima, Amina
What members of staff do you remember the most and why?
All the members of staff. Abs looked after us and kept us organised as well as being very friendly and funny. Amina (cleaner) was like a mother in the house and kept us all on our toes.
What were your impressions of the accommodation?
I was impressed by the accommodation, although mattresses were quite uncomfortable and more fans are needed.
Why did you want to volunteer?
To do more than just go on holiday, I wanted to do something rewarding.
Do you feel you made a difference, how?
Yes, through playing with the children and through feeding the homeless. Although, I think more long term projects need to be set us as all projects i took part in were short term.
What did you do for fun?
Went out into the souks, went to the pool, sahara trip, meals out.
When was your most enjoyable experience, do you have an interesting story?
A trip to Casablanca to volunteer at a camp, so much fun to go away with the group and interact with all children, it also allowed all the volunteers to bond.
Who did you make friends with and for what reasons?
I made so many friends, people that i know i will be friends with for life ! You have to make friends while you are out there, as these are the people that you are living with, but a real bond forms between you whilst you are volunteering
What were the names of the best places to hang out and socialise, why was this?
The souks, sesame garden. In the riads.
Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers? Please explain why.
I wouldn’t consider going to Morocco again (although i loved it) simply as I feel I have done everything i could do out there. However, I would defiantly go somewhere else with Original Volunteers.
What would you say/recommend to a friend who was interested in volunteering?
I would recommend Morocco if you haven’t done anything like this before as it is quite easy going, not too much volunteering each day and a nce start into this sort of thing, however if they had been travelling/volunteering today I wouldn’t recommend Morocco.
What items would you suggest future volunteers pack?
Take some snacks out with you, like cereal bars etc as snacks.
