Beetle is a game that can be played with children of all ages from seven upwards.
It is a good way of introducing and practising social skills and self-discipline. With a large numbers of children you will need to arrange several group games with 4-6 players maximum. This will allow the game to flow easily and prevent the children becoming bored and mischievous whilst waiting for their next turn.
You can provide small prizes as an incentive to participate.
How to play Beetle
You will need:
Several dice, score sheets, pencils a pre-drawn diagram of a beetle for each group and small prizes (optional).
Instructions:
Split the group up into some small teams (four or five players per group).
You will need to give each player a pencil and a sheet of paper.
The object of the game is for each player to roll the correct numbers so that the various parts of the beetle can be drawn.
The first player that draws the whole beetle is the winner.
The numbers and the corresponding parts are:
6 – for the body.
5 – for the head.
4 – for each of two wings.
3 – for each of six legs.
2 – for each of two antennae.
1 – for each of two eyes.
The youngest person starts
To start their beetle a player must throw a six (draw the body)
The dice is passed clockwise at each turn.
The game stops when a player has completed their beetle and calls out “Beetle!”
Each player counts the number of points on their beetle and writes it near their drawing.
The next game then begins.
The overall winner is the person with most points.
Rules
Players must throw a six to start
The eyes and antennae cannot be drawn until the head is attached!
