Pippa Watts Peru

Why did you want to volunteer?

Gain experience working with children

Do you feel you made a difference, how?
Yes because we were able to work with the children on a relaxed basis and it gave us more freedom to enjoy the time that we had with them.

What did you do for fun?
We made bracelets and danced with the girls, in the evenings the volunteers would go for dinner and a few drinks

When was your most enjoyable experience, do you have an interesting story?
The whole thing! Especially Machu Picchu.

Who did you make friends with and for what reasons?
All of the other volunteers, everyone was so friendly

Where were the best places to hang out and socialise, why was this?
In Plaza de Armas there are lots of nice restaurants, bars, cafés, and a few clubs! It’s beautiful both in the day and at night.

Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers? Please explain why.
I would love to go back but there are so many other places I want to visit that I think I would go with another OV project because it is safe and well organised.

Could you offer any tips to future volunteers?
Make sure that they know that the project in Peru doesn’t have a structure, it is very laid back and you do get a lot of free time. Ensure that you make time to get to know the kids because they wait for you to make the first move at first it can seem quite intimidating
