Hannah Lilley – Morocco
What members of staff do you remember?
Abs, Fatima & Hannan
Why did you want to volunteer?
I had travelled before and wanted to make a difference to children like those that I had seen. I also wanted to travel more and gain experience for future work.
Do you feel you made a difference, how?
Yes, I think the children valued having good interaction with us and enjoyed the games. They learnt a bit of English.
What did you do for fun?
Trip to Essouirra and rode a camel! Waterfall trip and berber trip. Evenings in the souks and eating out. Visited the palace and gardens. Going to swimming pool.
When was your most enjoyable experience, do you have an interesting story?
I loved taking the street kids swimming and seeing some of them in a pool for the first time! The babies orphanage was lovely and we got one of the little ones walking 🙂 I also really enjoyed seeing shooting stars at the berber village and riding a camel at the beach!
Who did you make friends with and for what reasons?
Other volunteers in the house, we all got on really well.
What were the names of the best places to hang out and socialise, why was this?
The souks! And the restaurants round the edge that look over the souks (can’t remember the name)
Would you considering going again or perhaps to another project with Original Volunteers? Please explain why.
Yes, I really enjoyed my trip!
Could you offer any tips to future volunteers?
Try to go when it’s slightly cooler. Be prepared to get covered in face paint!
