Thailand at a glance...

Head off after your volunteering to enjoy Thailand's thousands of kilometres of coastline, either above or below the water. Have a go at sea canoeing and kayaking through the spectacular limestone islands in Phang Nga Bay and explore the half-submerged caves and grottoes.

Take a boat trip through Bangkok's Floating Market, or along the klongs, a network of canals leading off the river, and lined with dwellings opening directly on to the water. Life has changed little for those living along the klongs.

Take in a muay thai (Thai kick-boxing) match; this traditional sport can be seen every day of the year at the major stadiums in both Bangkok and the provinces. Thai boxing matches are preceded by elaborate ceremonies and accompanied by lively music.

Take a day excursion from Bangkok for a train trip across the notorious River Kwai Bridge at Kanchanaburi, which was built by Allied prisoners under the direction of the Japanese during WWII .

Weather and when to go: Thailand is hot all year round with daily averages 30 degrees Celcius. The rainy season is June to September.

Climate and when to go: This programme operates between May and October. Warmest months during this period: May and October, coolest weather: between July and September.

I would  like to gain some teaching experience where my contribution is really valued and in demand

I have taught before and would like to put my experience and skills to good use and develop new ones

I have not taught but would like to get some teaching experience

I would like to experience the real Thailand away from the tourist crowd

and become part of a community rather than an outsider looking in

This project is ideal if one or more of the following apply to you

YOUR EXPERIENCE

This placement is based in a rural farming community. The school provides volunteers with free accommodation and free meals in return for a part-time or full-time teaching commitment  at a school which caters for approximately 300 children from disadvantaged families within a tight knitted farming community.

The school’s director speaks basic English but no one else does so don’t forget  to bring a phrase book and a dictionary with you and be ready to mime when you need to!

You don’t need teaching experience, just a commitment to have a go and get stuck in is a must! And if you have taught or volunteered before-fantastic!

Placement overview

Thailand, renowned for  miles of palm fringed golden beaches, Temples, welcoming people and the famous Bridge on the river Kwai.  This placement allows volunteers to experience this country from the inside as a member of the local community with plenty of opportunity for those who want to put something back and make a difference in a rural community.
